CASE STUDY- Agent Carter

Agent Carter 2nd draft essay

In this abstract of Agent Carter the social significance shown is female empowerment. I believe Agent Carter was underestimated by all the men in the movie and was seen as weak to others but is way more powerful and strong than what she lets on. They downplayed all of her skills and just saw her as a fragile woman instead of a strong individual.

Furthermore, during the start of the abstract, Agent Carter is in a control room on her own speaking into the intercom so confidently with strength in her voice showing how much leadership she truly has. During this scene she was shown wearing red lipstick emphasizing empowerment and love for Steve, but in the Ellipsis a year later she is seen with very bland and not as striking makeup. The lighting was Low-key further indicating how much Steves death impacted her which may have caused her to change herself. During the scene with Steve and Agent Carter they looked like they were in a deep romantical relationship, with this information Agent Carter had fully changed and is now seen as a quiet fragile woman.

After the Ellipsis, Agent Carter is working in an office that is completely controlled by men. The workplace has a group of different men in clothing that is professional and blue which could signify sadness, sorrow, and no meaning in life, with a feeling of emptiness and unfulfillment. The protagonist is then minimized by everyone including her boss who are all men. They believe she is a fragile and frail woman who can't do anything, but that is not true. The boss is rather possessive and controlling and agent carter which is using a fake name as miller isn't really given serious tasks only chores.

Aftermore, a jumpcut is seen where it is now the end of the day and Agent Carter us still being downplayed by her coworkers even when she gets the work done, and that she's very effective in all she does. This also intensifies how everyone belittles miller because she's only a woman. When miller reaches for the paperwork a POV shot is seen zooming into Steves picture indicating how much she still cares for him and her face shifts in the Mid-Shot. Agent Flyn then orders Miller to do his paperwork when he going out with all the men in the office while not inviting her. Even then Miller is portrayed as a brittle woman.

A tracking shot shows Miller receiving Agent Fylnn's paperwork. There is an abrupt sound effect of an alarm for a call of importance. Agent Carter pick's up this important call meant for Agent Flynn showing her dominance and now empowerment. She shows she can do anything by herself  regardless of her gender. When she moves to the car heading to the place that was said during the call. She walks with confidence and no sense of fear. There's a jumpcut where she gets to some kind of factory and by the looks of it she wasn't meant to be there. The two intimidating guys seemed to be belittling her during this clip increasing the fact they think she's weak. A over-the-shoulder shot of the men in front of her before the action really started added to the dramatic setting. Agent Carter is seen using full strength on both men, really showing how powerful she really is and how much strength she possess.

In conclusion, Agent Carter is seen as nothing but a weak and fragile woman undeserving of any actual role. Even though everyone belittled her she is actually a very strong individual who is very empowered, and so strong. No matter how people look at woman they are still strong and deserving.
