Peer Reviews of Initial Draft
I recently looked at the feedback for my movie opener, and I realized I need to improve my technical skills to make my work look more professional. The two main problems people noticed were the shaky camera and the choppy transitions that distracted people from the story. To fix this in my practice film about two girls being bullied, we are going to be much more careful with how we shoot. First we will use a tripod for still shots to show how the girls feel trapped or isolated. Keeping the camera still so it helps the audience focus more on the emotions instead of the shaky camera. Second we plan to use match cuts to make the transitions smoother. For example, we can cut from a bully slamming a locker to a girl slamming a book shut which connects the scenes much better. Finally we will make sure any camera movement is followed meaning the camera only moves if it is actually following a character. By focusing on these simple but important changes, I can make sure the audience stays focused on the important message of the film instead of our technical mistakes.
